How to keep your glass shower enclosure looking like new
Practical tips for caring for a glass shower enclosure: what to do after every shower, how to remove limescale and how to look after the seals and hardware.
A glass shower enclosure looks its best on the day it is installed. The good news is that it can look just as good years later with a little care. You do not need expensive products or much time, just a few good habits.
After every shower: thirty seconds that make a difference
Limescale forms when water droplets stay on the glass and dry. If you remove them while they are still wet, limescale has no chance to build up.
- run a rubber squeegee over the glass, from top to bottom
- leave the enclosure door slightly open so the space can dry
- ventilate the bathroom or switch on the extractor fan
This habit takes less than a minute, yet it makes the biggest difference. An enclosure whose glass is wiped regularly rarely needs a serious clean.
Keep the squeegee inside the enclosure, on a hook or a shelf, so it is always to hand. When it is within reach, wiping the glass quickly becomes a habit for everyone in the household.
Weekly cleaning of the glass and hardware
Once a week, wash the glass with a mild, non abrasive cleaner and dry it with a soft microfibre cloth. Do the same with the hardware, hinges or handle.
Apply the cleaner evenly over the glass, then rinse it off with clean water and wipe it dry so no streaks are left.

Avoid anything that could scratch the glass or damage the finish of the hardware:
- wire wool and rough scouring pads
- scouring powders and abrasive pastes
- strong chlorine based cleaners
This matters especially for black and gold hardware, whose finish stays beautiful longest when cleaned gently.
If you use shampoos and shower gels that leave marks on the glass, pay particular attention to the lower part of the enclosure during the weekly clean, as that is where residue tends to collect.
How to remove limescale that has already formed
If a white film has appeared on the glass, a solution of vinegar and water will help. Spray it on the glass, leave it for a few minutes to work, then wipe with a soft cloth and rinse with clean water. Repeat for stubborn marks.
When using the vinegar solution, do not leave it on the hardware for long, and after cleaning rinse the hardware with water and dry it with a dry cloth. If limescale has built up over a long time, do not scrape it off with a knife or a razor blade, as you could scratch the glass permanently.
Water lingers longest where the glass meets the hardware and along the bottom edge, so give those areas a little extra attention.
Seals and the sliding mechanism
The seals stop water escaping from the enclosure, so check them from time to time. Wipe them with a damp cloth and make sure they sit snugly against the glass. If you notice they are letting water through, get in touch with us.
Do not clean the seals with sharp objects and do not pull on them, as they can shift out of place.
On sliding enclosures, such as the models in our sliding shower enclosure collection, wipe the track and rollers too, so the doors glide easily and quietly.
A quick reminder
- after every shower: squeegee and ventilation
- once a week: mild cleaner and a soft cloth for the glass and hardware
- as needed: vinegar and water for limescale
- now and then: check the seals, wipe the track and rollers
With this routine the enclosure needs only a few minutes a week, and the glass stays clean and bright. It is easiest to start this routine straight after installation, while the glass is still perfectly clean.
All our enclosures come with a 2 year warranty covering the glass, hardware and installation. If something worries you, it is easier to contact us straight away than to wait.
